Hints for the assignment: "Presentation on the Science Topics from
Three Cups of Tea"
- Start off your talk with how your topic connects with the book
- Try preparing your talk this way:
Suppose you were on the Board of CAI, and you are in remote Baltistan
sitting around a big table with a dozen others in the room. As you sip
your tea, Greg Mortenson turns to you and says, "We need to know more
about this topic. At next week's meeting, please tell us what you
know about [whatever your topic is]. You have access to resources
at a research university in the US, so share with us what you learn.
Take 2 minutes and tell us the important things we should all
know."
While most members of the audience are not scientists or engineers, they
are all intelligent, highly motivated people. They just want to learn
and do the best they can to build schools and communties.
You are their teacher. You have a few minutes to help
shape what the next course of action Mortenson and the CAI will
take. Expect that they will ask questions.
- Keep your presentation short and to the point. You have 3 minutes
maximum. I recommend 3-5 slides, with minimal text. This is a guideline,
not a rule. Use more or less, as needed.
- **Practice the timing of your talk. **

- The Wellness Workshops last 45 min to an hour.
- The length of the first written homework assignment should be about 1 page,
certainly no more than two. Half a page might be okay if you are a gifted
writer, but probably is a bit too short to fully answer the question.

- Some clarification on the first written homework assignment: You aren't
looking for the most important sentences in the book. Instead, find sentences
that mean something to you. What sentences stand out in your mind? What
ones made you angry or sad, or made you laugh? What
sentences reminded you of experiences you had? Choose two sentences
and explain why these sentences are important to you, and help illustrate
some key aspect of the people in the book or events in the book.
(Please remember: all homework assignments must be typed and use proper
college-level English.)
